Individuals with disabilities make up 16.5% of the Canadian population and represent the fastest growing minority group.  People with disabilities have valuable contributions to make to the Alberta workforce. Job seekers with disabilities experience disproportionate unemployment and poverty rates.  October is Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM) - a time to collectively advocate for greater employment inclusion rates for people with disabilities.  DEAM is also a time to celebrate employers who champion workplace diversity and the inclusion of employees with disabilities. 

Several other Provincial Governments, including Ontario, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, have issued formal Provincial Proclamations of October as Disability Employment Awareness Month.  We're hoping with your help that 2017 is the year the Government of Alberta will issue an official Proclamation of Disability Employment Awareness Month.
