The Issue

Every day in Central Oklahoma, those that experience family crisis are forced to make an impossible choice: stay in a dangerous situations or leave without anywhere to go. While our city has incredible shelters and support services, there are times when beds are full, intake requirements can’t be met in the moment, or they are not yet emotionally ready to navigate a traditional shelter setting. I know what that moment feels like — the panic, the fear, the desperation — because I’ve lived it. I escaped abuse with nothing but a small bag of clothes. The shelters were full. I had nowhere to go. That experience is what led me to start Bridge2Safety OKC, a nonprofit that fills the critical gap in the first 72 hours after someone has a family crisis. We place these families in safe, confidential hotel rooms, deliver hygiene items and food, and connect them with trauma-informed services for emotional support. Then we guide them toward longer-term solutions — working in partnership with shelters, housing programs, legal aid, trauma counseling, and job services. What makes us unique is our commitment to being: Low-barrier and trauma-informed Inclusive of all identities and backgrounds Welcoming to survivors with pets or children of any age or gender.
We serve everyone, including LGBTQ+ individuals, people with disabilities, immigrants, and others who might otherwise fall through the cracks. Bridge2Safety OKC is currently 100% volunteer-led and relies entirely on community donations. The need is growing rapidly — and we cannot do this alone. By signing this petition, you’re showing Mayor David Holt and city leaders that Central Oklahoma stands behind efforts to ensure nobody in need is ever turned away simply because they have nowhere to go tonight. Together, we can build a more responsive, compassionate safety net for our most vulnerable neighbors. Please sign and share today. Every signature is a voice for safety, dignity, and hope.
