The Issue

Support Cyber Safety Education for Every Texas Student

As technology becomes an essential part of education, communication, and everyday life, students face increasing risks online. Cyber scams, identity theft, phishing attacks, online privacy concerns, and emerging technologies make digital safety education more important than ever.

The proposed Texas Student Cyber Safety Education Act encourages practical, age-appropriate cyber safety education for students enrolled in Texas public schools while preserving local control.

The proposal would:

Direct the Texas Education Agency to develop voluntary cyber safety instructional resources.
Encourage every Texas public school district and open-enrollment charter school to offer at least one age-appropriate cyber safety educational opportunity each academic year.
Allow school districts the flexibility to decide how cyber safety instruction is delivered.
Avoid creating a new graduation requirement or requiring a standalone course.
This proposal is designed to support schools by providing optional resources and encouraging districts to help students develop essential digital skills.

Cyber safety education can help students:

Recognize phishing attempts and online scams.
Protect personal information and digital identities.
Practice responsible digital citizenship.
Understand online privacy and security.
Navigate artificial intelligence and emerging technologies safely and responsibly.
By signing this petition, you respectfully encourage members of the Texas Legislature to review this proposal and consider sponsoring legislation that expands access to cyber safety education for students across Texas.

Together, we can help prepare the next generation with the knowledge and skills needed to stay safe in an increasingly digital world.
