The Issue

I’m a dentist in Eldridge, and I believe in the power of community action for the sake of public health. As both a professional in the field of oral health and a mother dedicated to the well-being of my three young children, the issue of water fluoridation in our community isn't merely academic—it hits home. I witness the benefits of water fluoridation daily in my practice: it helps prevent cavities and contributes to our children's healthy developing teeth. Without it, dental issues surge and higher costs accrue to individuals. Our children, in particular, face a high risk of developing cavities. Fluoride in community water—the tap water that we use every day and the water available through the bottle filling stations in our local schools—can help maintain our children's oral health safely. The fact that Community Water Fluoridation has been proclaimed as one of the greatest public health achievements in history accentuates its importance (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). Our community, like so many others, can proudly claim these health benefits as a result of water fluoridation. Thus, it is vital that we, the people of Eldridge, stand up for the continued tradition of water fluoridation. Our oral health, especially the health of our children, depends on it.
