Support Charlotte Dujardin's Contributions to Dressage

El problema

We the undersigned are voicing our support towards Charlotte Dujardin.

We condemn the action of Charlotte in the video that was made public and are resolute that equine welfare must always be placed uppermost, and always.

A video from 2.5 or 4 years ago resurfaces, and suddenly, we're targeting one of the most accomplished and respected riders in our sport.  Charlotte Dujardin has improved the lives of countless riders and horses through her teachings. She popularised the wearing of helmets across the equestrian disciplines, at a time when top hats were still the rage.  She has also popularised the sport of Dressage along with her mentor, Carl Hester.

Charlotte removed herself from the Olympics and is accepting to all investigations into the video that has been shared.  She is willing to accept the consequences of her actions in the video, as they will be from the governing bodies.  She accepts what she did was wrong and was totally out of character.

We are not going to comment on the content of the video, and this petition of support for Charlotte is not what this is about.

We the undersigned take mental health seriously.   While we do not condone the actions in the video in any way, there is a human aspect to this.  A human who is a daughter, mother, friend and future wife. The devastating timing of the video, we all know, was to have maximum impact on the life of one person, not just about animal welfare.  Not just to Charlotte, but to her family and associates as well.

Charlotte has endured the most public crucifixion of her professional and personal life world-wide, and this devastation will have long lasting mental health issues associated with it.  This surely is not what humans should do to one another.

We the undersigned are asking the FEI, British Dressage and the British Equestrian Federation to not let this incident overshadow what Charlotte Dujardin has done for the sport over a significant number of years.  Her impact on Dressage goes beyond her own wins. Charlotte has demonstrated an enduring commitment to the sport for decades, continually raising the bar for dressage and inspiring up and coming riders with her sportsmanship.

We ask that, while you investigate this to the full, that you remember, when coming to your conclusions on the penalties, that you consider everything Charlotte has done for the sport, and not let this one incident overshadow her stellar career.
