Support Boon Street Market at our upcoming Town Council Meeting on 12/2

The Issue

Dear Neighbors and Friends,

As members of the Narragansett community, we deeply value the connections we’ve built with you and the shared sense of pride in our town. Today, we are reaching out to seek your support in renewing Boon Street Market’s liquor license and maintaining our current operating hours amidst concerns raised by some of our neighbors regarding noise and late-night activity.

We want to emphasize that we understand and respect the residential nature of our community and the rights of our neighbors. In turn, we also ask for the same recognition of our commercial rights, as Boon Street Market operates in a mixed-use zone. We firmly believe in the guiding principle that "your rights stop at the tip of my nose," a timeless interpretation of our Constitution’s vision for mutual respect and coexistence. While every individual has the right to enjoy their home without undue disturbance, those rights do not extend beyond their property lines. Multiple independent noise assessments conducted by the Narragansett Police Department have confirmed that the noise levels at residential properties are within acceptable limits.

Boon Street Market is more than just a business; it’s a community hub dedicated to supporting Narragansett. We have been proud to contribute in meaningful ways, including being one of the largest donors to the Beach Blanket Bidding event, which supports our local schools. As
taxpayers, we understand how vital these contributions are to the future of our children and the strength of our community. Our support extends beyond education; we’ve invested in local organizations such as the Narragansett Lions Club and the Parks and Recreation Department and
have donated to police departments across the state. Additionally, we’ve contributed to fundraisers for veterans suffering from PTSD, recognizing the sacrifices they made to protect the very freedoms we all enjoy today—including the right to express concerns, such as those we’re addressing now.

In times of need, we’ve stood by our neighbors. When the local restaurant 210 faced devastation from a fire, we hosted a fundraiser to support their staff and provided employment opportunities to displaced workers. Our partnership with the Galilee Mission helps former addicts rebuild their
lives through employment opportunities and mentorship, demonstrating our commitment to giving everyone a second chance.

We’ve taken significant steps to address noise and traffic concerns. Indoor music is reduced at 11 PM, and we chose not to host live music, despite being approved for it. We’ve installed signs urging guests to be respectful of our neighbors, and we’re actively exploring additional noise-
dampening measures, including a proposed pergola. Valet services help manage parking efficiently, and our staff ensures the surrounding area is clean before and after business hours. To prevent disturbances, we also stagger departures by calling last orders 45 minutes before closing.

Our contributions extend beyond community programs. Boon Street Market generates significant tax revenue for Narragansett, supporting essential services such as schools, roads, and public safety. We create local jobs and foster a welcoming environment for all—from children playing corn hole while their parents enjoy a meal, to young adults connecting with friends, to seniors spending quality time with loved ones.

We respectfully ask for your support in renewing our liquor license and maintaining our current operating hours. Your support is not just for Boon Street Market, but for the positive impact we’ve had on Narragansett—a commitment to preserving the vibrant, community-focused environment we’ve built together.

Thank you for standing with us. We are grateful for the opportunity to continue serving and growing with this wonderful community.

Warm regards,
The Boon Street Market Team
