With generative and AI in general on the rise, it is important to note that for all the small conveniences such as writing a 100 word email, wastes a bottles worth of water. Headlines are spreading across the country and the world of the large amounts of water wasted cooling down these data centers and ruining drinking water and the environment where many animals live at the same time, as well as being deemed “heat islands”, and assisting with the rapid escalation of global warming. Additionally, data centers such as the one in Lowell plagues the local neighborhoods with a constant hum and exhaust flowing from its chimneys. Natural environments are being attacked everywhere by these buildings and destroying our natural resources for us humans and many of the creatures the Earth supports. We live in a turning point in history where we need to protect our environments, water, and overall wellbeing from small conveniences such as AI. This petition aims to garner support from those in Essex County and beyond to show we do not want these massive data centers being built and that we do not want to become part of the problem. Our county has such rich history and beautiful forests, marshes, beaches, and many other environmental wonders. Please sign and contact local leaders to show that we prefer protecting our environment as opposed to building these problematic data centers.
