Support Black & Brew: Preserve its Iconic Storefront
The Issue
**Edit: Black & Brew has asked that we focus on gathering signatures for now in lieu of donations; many thanks for your support!**
Passyunk Avenue Revitalization Corporation ("PARC"), has decided—without any discernible explanation—not to renew the lease of one of our community’s most beloved and longstanding storefronts: Black & Brew.
For seventeen years, Black & Brew has been more than just a coffee shop in Passyunk Square, Philadelphia. It has been a pillar of our community -- a meeting place for friends and family, an ambassador of our neighborhood welcoming new faces, and a home away from home. For well over a decade, Black & Brew has done so much to help and support our community; it's now our turn to help B&B.
The threat to Black & Brew is not just about losing a beloved cafe; it's about preserving the character of Passyunk Square. Our neighborhood thrives on its unique blend of businesses that contribute to its charm and vitality. Losing this establishment would be losing an integral part of what makes us who we are.
PARC holds itself out as a nonprofit that is dedicated to benefiting our community. Its website asserts that PARC “will ensure a quality retail mix that serves both the neighborhood and the region” and that “[r]etail leasing decisions will balance prudent investment principles with community service objectives.” PARC’s decision to eject Black & Brew from its iconic storefront--despite B&B's efforts to negotiate and offers to purchase the building outright-- is at odds with this assertion.
Let us stand together as one community and show our support for Black & Brew. Let us ensure it remains at the location where it has stood for seventeen years so that it can continue its legacy as an integral part of Passyunk Square.
Sign this petition today to implore PARC to reconsider its decision and to show your support for keeping Black & Brew at its home location – let’s preserve not only a business but also the heart and soul of our community.
