The Issue

Dear Community Members,

The Barkley Regional Airport Authority Board has recommended SkyWest Airlines to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regarding our region's next Essential Air Service (EAS) provider. This decision is more than just about choosing an airline; it's about ensuring our community stays connected, competitive, and positioned for future growth beyond EAS.

After reviewing proposals from five carriers, the Board selected SkyWest Airlines as the best fit for our community's needs and meets the true vision of EAS: reliable, accessible, and growth-oriented air service for rural America.

We need your voice now. By signing this petition, you support the BRAA's recommendation and send a clear message to the DOT: The Paducah Region stands united behind this choice of SkyWest Airlines.

Why is this important?

  • Connectivity is not a luxury; it's a lifeline. Reliable air service connects our region to Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) and George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), providing access to 271 global destinations, often with one stop. It supports local tourism and businesses, attracts new employers, and provides essential access for families, students, and healthcare travelers.
  • Economic development depends on access. Without dependable air service, we risk falling behind. Strong air connections make Western Kentucky more attractive to investors, job creators, and visitors.
  • Air service matters in emergencies. Whether it's medical travel, time-sensitive cargo, or natural disaster response, access to commercial air service is a critical public resource.
  • We deserve the same opportunities as larger metros. Reliable EAS helps level the playing field, giving our mighty region the connectivity needed to thrive and attract new and exciting opportunities.

Together, we can help secure the future of air service in our region. Let's ensure the DOT hears us loud and clear: The greater Paducah Region supports this decision and demands strong, reliable air service for our future.
