Support Baltimore RPM: A Safe, Legal Dirt Bike Park & Youth Mentorship Program
The Issue
Baltimore has a long and deeply rooted dirt bike culture, but riders currently have limited legal places where they can safely ride. This has contributed to dirt bikes being ridden on public streets, creating safety concerns for riders, pedestrians, motorists, and our communities.
Baltimore RPM — Ride • Protect • Mentor is a proposed safe and legal dirt bike park and youth mentorship program designed to create a better alternative.
Our goal is not simply to build a place to ride. Baltimore RPM would use the dirt bike culture that already exists in our city as a way to connect with young people, provide mentorship, teach responsibility, encourage safe riding, and create positive relationships within the community.
The proposed Baltimore RPM program would focus on:
Providing a designated, controlled location for legal dirt bike riding
Helping reduce dangerous and illegal riding on Baltimore streets
Requiring appropriate safety equipment and enforcing park safety rules
Creating mentorship opportunities for Baltimore youth
Teaching responsibility, discipline, bike safety, and maintenance
Building positive relationships between riders, families, community organizations, businesses, and public safety professionals
Providing transportation options for dirt bikes so riders do not have to ride illegally through the city to reach the facility
Baltimore RPM is about finding a solution that recognizes Baltimore’s dirt bike culture while protecting the community.
Instead of only asking how we stop illegal dirt bike riding, we should also ask:
Where can riders legally go, and how can we turn this culture into an opportunity to reach our youth?
We are asking Baltimore residents, riders, parents, community leaders, businesses, youth organizations, public safety professionals, and supporters to sign this petition in support of developing Baltimore RPM and working with Baltimore City officials and community partners to explore a safe, realistic location for the program.
Our goal is 10,000 signatures.
