The Issue

Support an Emergency Injunction to remove ICE from the State of Washington

Capitol Hill Pride is encouraging legislators and representatives to file an emergency injunction restraining order as soon as possible against ICE operating in the state of Washington due to their aggression against persons, disruption of schools and families resulting in deaths, injuries, illegal seizures around the state and shelter in place actions at six Seattle schools to date.
We encourage citizens to sign this petition and share to your communities.

Whereas persons should not have to live in fear.  Immigrants, Transgenders, LGBTQAI+ community and Citizens should not have their civil and human rights violated. Students should not have to live in fear. Families should not worry about sending their children to school.

Whereas with the ongoing conduct of ICE who have demonstrated excessive use of force and brutality with impunity to citizens we call on citizens to support an immediate emergency injunction against ICE operating in the State of Washington.

Whereas our first amendment states:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances".

[The below message is from Jennifer Wood, King County Outreach Representative to Governor Ferguson. The Governor’s Office is not endorsing or commenting on the petition itself, and this response should not be construed as such. Any formal response to petitions will be communicated via an official press release or statement.] Governor Ferguson is firmly dedicated to upholding the rights of all Washingtonians, and is in constant communication with Washington’s top military officials, our congressional delegation, county executives, city leaders, state legislators, and community organizations about the ongoing immigration crackdown coming from the federal government. On Monday, January 26, Governor Ferguson held a press conference with Attorney General Nick Brown to denounce the unconstitutional actions of ‘out of control’ ICE agents in Minneapolis. The Governor is preparing for a similar escalation here in Washington, should the federal administration choose our state as its next target. The Governor and Attorney General also sent a letter to Secretary Kristi Noem to urge the withdrawal of ICE from Minnesota, and to call out DHS’s blatant unconstitutional memo authorizing ICE agents to enter private homes without judicial warrants – a clear violation of the Fourth Amendment. • https://governor.wa.gov/news/2026/governor-ferguson-attorney-general-brown-denounce-unconstitutional-actions-out-control-ice-agents • https://governor.wa.gov/sites/default/files/2026-01/Secretary%20Noem%20letter.pdf In 2019, the state legislature passed the Keep Washington Working Act with the primary intention to protect the rights of immigrant communities from unnecessary contact with ICE and CBP. The law significantly restricts the extent to which local law enforcement agencies may participate in enforcement of federal immigration laws. The Governor is committed to upholding this law, and has publicly stated that intimidation attempts from the federal government will not sway his position. • https://governor.wa.gov/news/2025/governor-ferguson-responds-shameful-letter-us-attorney-general-bondi Here is a link to a flyer from the WA Immigrant Solidarity Network that provides information about your rights under Keep WA Working. That Executive Order also directed all state agencies to review their data collection, sharing, and retention policies to ensure they are protecting the privacy and safety of all residents. • https://equity.wa.gov/what-we-do/immigration-subcabinet • https://governor.wa.gov/news/2025/governor-ferguson-signs-executive-order-reaffirming-washingtons-commitment-protecting-immigrant Also on Monday, the Governor announced that he has authorized the Chief of the Office of Refugee and Immigrant Assistance (ORIA), Sarah Peterson, to attend all cabinet meetings. Just yesterday, SB 5855, sponsored by Senator Javier Valdez, passed through the state senate. That law will bar law enforcement from wearing face coverings.
