Support America’s Unpaid Family Caregivers
The Issue
Every day, millions of Americans care for aging, disabled, or seriously ill family members and friends—often without a paycheck.
According to AARP, approximately 59 million family caregivers provided 49.5 billion hours of care in 2024. The estimated economic value of that unpaid care was $1.01 trillion.
These caregivers are husbands, wives, sons, daughters, grandchildren, parents, relatives, friends and neighbors. They help people bathe, eat, dress, manage medications, get to appointments and remain safely in their homes.
Many do it while working full-time jobs, raising children, losing sleep, spending their own savings and sacrificing their own financial security.
America depends on family caregivers, but too many of them feel like they are doing this alone.
I am asking Congress and federal policymakers to substantially strengthen support for America's unpaid family caregivers, including greater access to respite care, home- and community-based services, caregiver education and navigation, mental-health support, necessary home modifications and equipment, and financial relief for qualifying caregivers who sacrifice income to provide care.
This isn't about Republicans or Democrats. Caregiving doesn't care how you vote.
We aren't asking our country to put a price on the love families have for one another. We're asking our country to recognize how much families are already carrying—and provide meaningful support to help them continue.
59 million caregivers. 49.5 billion hours. $1.01 trillion in unpaid care.
If you believe America should do more to support the people caring for our parents, spouses, grandparents, children, relatives and friends, please add your name.
