Support Aerial Safety: Help Mark Guy Wires in Agricultural Areas

The Issue

Tylor Johnson, a third-generation aerial applicator, was a skilled and passionate pilot. In September 2023, his routine flight turned tragic when his plane struck a nearly invisible guy wire. This preventable accident not only ended Tylor's life but also left behind a grieving family and a shocked community. His story underscores the daily risks faced by aerial applicators.

Each year, over 50 aerial applicators in the United States are involved in accidents related to obscured aerial hazards like guy wires. This number is alarmingly significant, considering there are only about 2,000 agricultural pilots nationwide. According to the National Transportation Safety Board, unmarked wires are among the top five causes of fatalities for these pilots. The risk each pilot faces due to these unmarked hazards is disproportionately high. Our initiative to install high-visibility orange markers on these wires is not just a precaution—it's a crucial action to prevent more losses like Tylor's. With such markers, we can drastically reduce the risks, transforming hidden dangers into visible obstacles that can be avoided, thereby saving lives.

The Tylor Johnson Legacy Foundation, established in memory of Tylor Johnson is dedicated to enhancing aerial safety. We are spearheading an initiative to install high-visibility orange markers on guy wires across agricultural areas. This simple yet effective measure can drastically increase the visibility of these wires, thereby saving lives and preventing future tragedies. Without this change, pilots will continue to navigate these dangerous skies, risking their lives unnecessarily every time they fly.

The urgency to act has never been greater. Each flight that takes place over unmarked wires carries with it a risk we can no longer accept. We call on local power companies to join us in this critical safety initiative - partnering with us to mark guy wires.

Sign this petition to urge power companies to take immediate action to mark guy wires. Your support is crucial in creating a safer flying environment and can help avert potential disasters. By signing, you contribute to a movement for change that honors the memory of pilots like Tylor and ensures the safety of those still flying for us.

Together, we can make a significant impact and ensure safer skies!
