The Issue

As a current business owner heavily invested in Covington Square proper and the broader community, I am reaching out for support in allowing a tattoo studio to operate within the Town Center Mixed-Use (TCM) zoning district. This area, which I have grown both professionally and personally attached to, deserves to embrace diverse and thriving businesses.

Many establishments within the TCM zoning district do not fit the traditional mold of being "family-oriented." However, they still contribute to the vibrant tapestry of our downtown community. For example, liquor stores and lingerie shops are permitted under the existing zoning regulations, even though they are not currently present. It is time to recognize tattoo studios here as well.

A professional and well-managed tattoo studio will only serve to enhance our community, offering not only a service but a cultural expression and individual art form. It is unfair and judgmental to single out this business type when similar uses are allowed in the area.

We are asking the council to approve this application and show their support for a business that is committed to maintaining the integrity and ethos of Covington. It’s not just about tattoos; it’s about supporting a local economy and recognizing the diversity of our community.

With the current stipulations and setbacks that would be in place the city would have great input on how the shop would look and run. Potential shop owner Chris Huff is a well known tattoo artist and business owner who has a extremely high reputation.

Please join me in encouraging our city council to approve the establishment of a tattoo studio in the TCM zoning district on the square. Sign this petition to voice your support for a more inclusive and vibrant downtown Covington.
