Right now, one of the acute issues effecting our city of Oak Harbor is the fact that a facility dedicated to social, recreation and fitness activities for all ages does not exist. This is a need in our community, especially for the youth, as Ryan's House recently closed their Oak Harbor drop-in center, which supplies 75% of their population. During the summer, there's not many things for kids to do. A community center would certainly help that.

Currently, our City Council has approved funds for a feasibility study, which will look at cost, location and amenities of a proposed center. However, this project is not guaranteed to stay on track. If we are ever to see anything come of this feasibly study, council needs to see our support, as residents of Oak Harbor and greater Island County area.

The benefits of a community center are far more than just a place for youth to go. It encourages social interaction, fostering stronger community bonds, and allowing a vibrant sense of culture. Seeing as a center doesn't exist in close proximity to us, a community building would draw visitors from adjacence cities, growing our economy as well.

City Council wants this center. Oak Harbor needs this center. By signing this petition, you bring us one step closer to this being a reality on our island.
