The Issue

My name is Nehemiah J. Cumberbatch, and a life-changing spinal injury has fuelled my mission to transform Slough and Hillingdon. After an accident left me reliant on a wheelchair, I faced the harsh reality of limited accessible facilities—gyms, care homes, and transport systems that truly meet the needs of those with mobility challenges. This personal struggle drives my vision: an 800-bedroom, solar-powered care home that’s not just a residence but a vibrant, inclusive community hub. With the UK facing a care crisis—needing 30,000 additional care home places by 2030, per The Guardian—this project is urgent for our aging population and rising disability rates in Slough and Hillingdon. I’m launching this petition to make it happen, and I need your support.
The Vision: A Revolutionary Care Home and Community Hub
This 400,000–500,000 sq.ft. facility, costing £97M–£195M to build, will generate £44M–£52M annually through care fees and a public, inclusive sports gym. Powered by solar panels to meet EPC level C standards by 2030, it aligns with Slough’s 2030 carbon-neutral target and Hillingdon’s eco-projects like Balsam Court. The project will create jobs, boost the local economy, and provide a space where young people recovering from injuries—like I once did—can thrive alongside seniors and families.
Inclusive Gym: Inspired by Stanmore’s Aspire Leisure Centre, a 400-ft gym with adjustable equipment for wheelchair users, featuring basketball courts, soccer fields, and racing tracks. It’s a space for rehabilitation and community connection, addressing the gaps I’ve faced as a wheelchair user.
On-Site Therapy: Occupational Therapy (O.T.) and Physiotherapy (P.T.) facilities will offer tailored rehabilitation, reducing healthcare costs and supporting the £86M Disabled Facilities Grant boost.
Hyperloop-Inspired Transport System: A small-scale, low-speed, accessible transport system, developed with a tech innovator like HyperloopTT, will connect the care home to key locations (e.g., Slough Station, Hillingdon Hospital). Electric, wheelchair-friendly pods will enhance mobility for elders and disabled residents, creating 50–100 high-tech jobs and supporting Slough’s 2030 Vision for regeneration (cost: £10M–£20M).
Space-Tech Health Monitoring: Partnering with UK firms like Oxford Space Systems and Babylon Health, we’ll deploy AI-driven, space-derived sensors to monitor residents’ vitals in real-time (e.g., heart rate, mobility). This reduces hospital admissions by 20% (per Babylon Health studies), eases NHS strain, and positions Slough/Hillingdon as health tech leaders (cost: £5M–£10M).
Zero-Waste Model: A circular economy approach, with on-site recycling via anaerobic digesters and medical waste sterilizers (partnering with Veolia UK), will make the facility zero-waste. This saves £50,000–£100,000 annually in landfill costs, creates 30–50 green jobs for local youth, and aligns with Slough and Hillingdon’s sustainability goals (cost: £2M–£5M).
Why This Matters
This care home addresses urgent needs: accessibility, sustainability, and healthcare innovation. It will reduce NHS costs, create 130–200 jobs (gym staff, therapists, tech operators), and attract investment through public-private partnerships with Homes England or Care UK. By integrating cutting-edge tech—solar power, accessible transport, AI health monitoring, and zero-waste systems—it sets a global standard for care facilities, benefiting Slough, Hillingdon, and Greater London.
We Need Your Support
Slough Borough Council and Hillingdon Council can provide land and planning approval, but they need to see community backing. With 1,000 signatures, we can show this vision—rooted in our Oak Tree Community—has the power to change lives. My spinal injury opened my eyes to these gaps, and now I’m turning that challenge into action.
