Dear fellow animal lover,
Do you remember this moment from last year? This photo was taken as members celebrated disrupting Co-op's AGM in protest at the supermarket's shocking use of Frankenchickens.
Now I am excited to share that a motion, proposed by Co-op member Hannah Dickson, signed by hundreds of Co-op members and customers, and backed by Chris Packham, is going to a vote at Co-op’s AGM next month.
A chance to help millions of animals
The motion is calling for an end to Co-op’s cruel use of Frankenchickens, who have suffering coded into their DNA from birth. Co-op has continued to use these fast-growing breeds despite growing member outrage.
Ending Co-op's use of Frankenchickens could benefit 10 million sensitive, intelligent chickens each year. But you know what Co-op’s response has been? “The Board does not believe that adopting slower growing breeds is the right thing for our Co-op at this time.” This, despite polling showing that 78% of Co-op members consider animal welfare an important factor when choosing where to shop.
Now we stand up for animals
With the Co-op Board’s ethical principles missing in action, now we need to step up to send them a powerful message: the cruelty must stop.
With the critical vote just over a month away, we’ll be educating the public about Co-op’s Frankenchicken shame and mobilising members to vote in favour of the motion.
Are you in? Sign up to our emails now to never miss an update or action. Thank you for standing up to corporate cruelty with us.
For the animals,

P.S. Change is possible and it’s happening right now. This week, Waitrose announced that all its chickens will meet the Better Chicken Commitment - which includes a ban on using Frankenchickens - by August. This will improve the lives of an estimated 37.4 million chickens per year. Co-op bosses: you have no excuse.
