The issue

I suffer from Major Depressive Disorder, Anxiety, PTSD and Borderline Personality Disorder. I have worked all my life and paid extra to have TPD (Total Permanent Disability) Insurance with my Super Funds. I suffered a major breakdown in 2017 and was forced to leave Sydney and move back to a rural area where my family live. I now have no access to any of the services that I was able to access in Sydney. I had an overdose and was not seen by any Mental Health professional in the Hospital and discharged the next day. I am unable to support myself on the Disability Pension to pay for my medication and try and seek support. I started the Insurance process with a no win no fee solicitor over six months ago and this was just to get the forms together to send to the Super Funds. I have now been advised the outcome could take up to a further 18 months for an outcome. In the meantime, I am unable to do any work and have to just sit and wait. Both my family and I are deeply concerned that my health is declining and if the outcome of the claim is declined I will see no other way out but to commit suicide. I am calling for TPD Claims for Mental Health to be prioritised and the claimant to be supported and not left waiting for an unknown amount of time for an outcome of the claim.
