All,
The Friends of Summit County team has been continuing to work diligently in opposition to the Dakota Pacific project. We are also enlarging our mission to address growth in Summit County overall.
Please see the link below to a recent guest editorial that we ran in the Park Record. Our message to Dakota Pacific is simple and clear: either build the tech park, revise the project so that it offers community benefits that exceed those of the tech park, or sell the land. We are working hard to see if we can get council members to adopt this same position.
We are also beginning an aggressive push for a development moratorium in the Snyderville Basin, which will hopefully piggy-back on a similar moratorium that is gaining momentum in Park City proper. This moratorium would not only slow down growth, but - as importantly - would give county staff desperately needed time to revise the county's land use policies (and ensure they reflect the vision of the community) without the burden of having to process an onslaught of building and development applications.
Dakota Pacific is currently working on revisions to their prior proposal, and in the next couple of months is likely to share their new proposal with the community. In the interim, we are pushing the county to conduct a fiscal impact study on the revised project, ensure the traffic studies are updated, and require Dakota Pacific to construct traffic mitigation measures in parallel with their new buildings.
Lastly, with an election coming this November, we are in the process of assessing council members' and candidates' positions related to development and growth in the county. Changes at the council level are likely required in order to preserve the mountain lifestyle that has drawn so many to this area over the years. We will be calling on the community for additional outreach to the council in the coming weeks, so stand by for your opportunity to pitch-in.
Thanks to everyone!
