Dan kutcher started this petition to Summerside Port Corporation and

Whereas, the Government of Canada transferred the ownership of the Summerside Port to Summerside Port Corporation Inc. (SPCI) in order to put ownership and control into the hands of local interests for the benefit of the community,

and whereas, SPCI has agreed to receive, store and operate a distribution hub for 44,000 tonnes of road salt in a makeshift storage depot located at the heart of the Summerside waterfront (the Salt Pile),

and whereas, the Salt Pile does not benefit the community because it will  negatively affect many residents, businesses and potentially the environment,

and whereas, the SPCI has not provided any comments, outreach or feedback, to the local community on the matter,

I PETITION to the Summerside Port Corporation Inc. (SPCI) Board of Directors: To terminate the agreement with Windsor Salt and the Province of PEI that, unless terminated, will result in 44,000 tonnes of road salt received, stored and distributed from a makeshift depot located right in the heart of the City of Summerside waterfront.

AND,

Whereas, the PEI Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, has responsibility for matters related to the receipt, storage and transportation of road salt,

and whereas, the Minister has the authority and capability to work with the other parties involved to find an alternate storage site for this winter,

I PETITION the PEI Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure: To direct staff to locate and make arrangements for an alternate road salt storage site for the Salt Pile.

AND,

Whereas, the City of Summerside (the City) represents the interests of the people of Summerside,

and whereas, the City previously appointed a Board representative on SPCI, but for whatever reason does not have any Board representative anymore,

I PETITION the City of Summerside: To immediately (1) appoint the CAO as its representative on the SPCI Board or Directors, and to, (2) work with all parties involved to find an alternate site to store the 44,000 tonnes of road salt, and to, (3) take all any and all actions it would take toward any entity to ensure all permits are properly applied for and ordinances and bylaws adhered to in this case.
