Pass IR 1964, the New Suffolk County New York Legislature District Map!

Pass IR 1964, the New Suffolk County New York Legislature District Map!
The Issue
The current Democratic majority is considering adopting the new proposed map before the Republican majority takes over in early January, and they need our help to support their efforts!
The proposed map is a fair and balanced map and Suffolk County Residents deserve to have it implemented.
Who knows what map the Republicans will try to adopt if the proposed map is not adopted by the time they take over in early January?! If the maps that have been put forward by their party in places like Texas and North Carolina are any indication, it will not be pretty! Locally, when Republicans have drawn maps, they have drawn them to suit only themselves, not their constituents, as evident by their handiwork on the Town of Islip and Town of Brookhaven council districts.
We need to voice our support for the new map to all of the current Suffolk County Legislators as well as County Executive Steve Bellone with this petition, as well at the Legislative General Meeting DECEMBER 21st at 9:30am. Our county legislators who are trying to move this map forward despite a lot of Republican complaining deserve our support. The General Meeting will be held at the William H Rogers Building #20, 725 Veterans Memorial Highway Smithtown, NY 11787 in the Rose Caracappa Auditorium. If you cannot attend and would like to submit comments to the Legislature, you can do so though this link. clerk.legislature@suffolkcountyny.gov
The major highlights of the new map are:
This map would provide better representation for our minority communities – it doubles the number of Majority-Minority Districts from 2 to 4. The minority population in Suffolk grew from 19.22% in 2010 to 33.9% in 2020, this is a 76.4% increase!
Even in districts that are not Majority-Minority, the hamlets where minority communities are concentrated are kept entirely within a single Legislative District, ensuring that they have an opportunity to vote for the officials who best represent their community as a whole. For communities like Deer Park, Central Islip, Gordon Heights, Dix Hills, Islip Terrace, Ridge this has been sorely lacking in the current district map.
This map contains more condensed/compact and easily drivable districts that give constituents easier and more ready access to their Elected Officials.
Thank you for signing and pitching in to make sure there is a loud voice for sensible redistricting here in Suffolk!
