To our incredible supporters,

First and foremost: Thank you. Last night’s Pickens County Council meeting was a powerful testament to our community’s commitment to our libraries. It was standing room only, with the lobby filled with neighbors who showed up to speak for reason, fiscal responsibility, and the restoration of our youth programs.

What we achieved together last night:

We held the "Appointers" accountable: We reminded the County Council that because they appoint the Library Board of Trustees, the Board's actions—and their potential fiscal waste—reflect directly on the Council’s oversight.

We shifted the narrative: Multiple voices stood up to demand objective, data-driven baselines for our material policies. We made it clear that we aren't just "pro-book"; we are pro-efficiency and pro-stewardship.

We highlighted the "Vagueness Tax": We put the Council on notice regarding the estimated $160,000 in diverted taxpayer wages that a manual audit would cost, contrasting it with the free, professional SCLENDS metadata solution already at our fingertips.

Why this matters now:

The news is watching. Last night’s massive turnout and the subsequent media coverage prove that the public will not sit idly by while essential services are suspended and taxpayer funds are used to fuel subjective, ad-hoc audits.

Next Steps:

While the County Council may claim they don't "write the policy," they definitely control the budget and the appointments. We will continue to push for a Resolution of No Confidence if the Board refuses to adopt a professional, metadata-driven audit model.

Thank you for standing up as the "adults in the room." We are the voice of reason, and last night, Pickens County heard us loud and clear.

Save the Date: March 19th Library Board Meeting

While we successfully put the County Council on notice, our next critical step is taking this message directly to the Library Board of Trustees on March 19th.

Why your presence is more important than ever:

Limited Voices, Infinite Support: The Library Board typically limits public comment to only 10 speakers. While we will ensure our strongest technical and fiscal arguments are represented in those ten slots, the Board needs to see the scale of the community they serve.

The "Silent Majority" Effect: A standing-room-only crowd of supporters proves that the demand for objective, metadata-driven audits isn't coming from a small faction—it is the mandate of the Pickens County majority.

Fiscal Accountability: We will continue to present the $160,000 "Vagueness Tax" calculation to the Board, demanding they adopt the professional SCLENDS model to save taxpayer funds and restore our youth programs immediately.

The Goal for March 19th:

Let’s pack the room once again. Even if you aren't one of the ten speakers, your presence stands as a witness to the Board's decisions. They need to understand that we are watching their stewardship of our tax dollars and our children’s resources.

Onward,

Gus
