Subject: Urgent Need for Footpath and Road Safety Improvements near road from Dosti Imperia to Khewra circle Acme Ozone.  

Respected Sir/Madam,

We, the residents of the area surrounding Dosti Imperia, Acme Ozone, Shubharambh, and Hawamahal Complex, are writing to express our deep concern regarding the dangerous conditions of the roads and footpaths in our locality.

A recent accident involving Mr. Satish Naidu, a 74-year-old resident of Dosti Imperia, highlights the urgency of our plea. On June 26, 2024, at 8:00 PM, Mr. Naidu was knocked down by a tempo while walking near the Hawamahal Complex. He suffered severe internal brain injuries and unfortunately have lost his life. This tragic incident could have been avoided if there were a dedicated footpath with proper lighting for pedestrians.

Currently, the footpaths are occupied by fruit and vegetable vendors, plant nurseries, and mutton shops, leaving no space for walking. The area is also poorly lit and poorly maintained, with vegetable waste littering the road, making it filthy and foul-smelling. Additionally, some shopkeepers use the footpath for urinating and littering. Parking issues on both sides of the road exacerbate the problem, leaving even less space for pedestrians.

How can we expect residents to use the footpath in such deplorable conditions? How many more lives need to be put at risk before action is taken? We, the residents, are fed up with the mess around us, which is severely impacting our daily lives.

Given the current situation, we demand immediate action from the officials.

Our primary concerns are as follows:

• Encroachment of Footpaths:
  The existing footpaths are occupied by fruit and vegetable vendors, plant and nursery vendors, mutton shops, etc., leaving no space for pedestrians to walk.
• Insufficient Lighting:
  The area lacks adequate street lighting, making it unsafe for pedestrians, especially during the night.
• Cleanliness:
  Vegetable garbage is frequently thrown on the footpaths, creating an unhygienic and foul-smelling environment. Additionally, some shopkeepers use the foothpath area for urinating and littering.
• Parking Issues:
  Both sides of the road are often blocked by improperly parked vehicles, reducing space for walking and causing traffic congestion.
• Illegal Auto Rickshaw Stand:
  There is always congestion due to an illegal auto rickshaw stand opposite Gate 3 Dosti Shopee. These rickshaws create a queue in the second lane, which is meant for vehicle passing.

 

We request the following actions:

• Clearing Encroachments:
  Remove unauthorized vendors from the footpaths to ensure they are accessible for pedestrians.
• Improving Lighting:
  Install adequate streetlights along the footpaths and roads to enhance visibility and safety.
• Maintaining Cleanliness:
  Implement strict measures to maintain cleanliness and prevent littering and urinating in public spaces.
• Regulating Parking:
  Enforce parallel, Odd-even parking on either side of the street to optimize space for vehicles and pedestrians to pass.
• Deploy RTO Officer: In addition, we request the deployment of a full-time regional transport volunteer/officer during peak hours in our area. This volunteer should have the authority to fine vehicles that are stopping and creating traffic jams. This measure will help ensure smoother traffic flow and increase safety for pedestrians.
• Implement one legal Auto-Stand near gate 4. TMC must implement only one legal rickshaw stand near to gate 4. 
• Implement speed bump: Please implement speed bump near gate 4 and one near to hava mahal complex.

We urge TMC officials to take immediate action to address these problems and ensure the safety and well-being of the residents.
