On Monday, June 7th, a group of people are planning on protesting us students learning about the US’ long and complicated history of race at a school board meeting. We are not afraid of learning about the role we play in supporting the institutions that have divided us for way too long. We must learn if we are going to make a difference. We are old enough to understand. It’s not indoctrination to learn about racism. It’s essential to discuss complicated subjects such as police brutality towards Black and Latino people if we want to build a better future for all of America. Don’t let the people it doesn’t effect decide what we learn about. Us students deserve to have our voices heard in what we want to learn.
