The city of Quincy has a predominantly Asian community and sometimes school days fall on the day of Chinese New Year or Lunar New Year. Despite being a very important holiday to those that celebrate it, the school system does not allow those who wish to celebrate to take the day off. This is biased as there are many Christian holidays that the school takes off such as Good Friday and Easter that only a niche amount of people celebrate. I believe that the day of Chinese New Year should be taken as a day off of school, to allow those involved the chance to celebrate like it was meant to be celebrated. It is just as important as any other holiday such as Columbus Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which are days that the school gives as days off. It would be great if the Asian community was given more representation due to the fact that Asians make up a large portion of the school system. Since Chinese New Year is a day of celebration and praying in the temple. It is also meant to be spent with family and this can not be done when there is a full day of school on that day. If there is any possible way to get that day off, it would be greatly appreciated by all!!!
