learn about social justice issues.
The Issue
right now our education system is not teaching us about current human right issues/movements/ disscussions going on in the world even though many of these effect students personally. for example police brutality make poc students feel distrust in the police who are meant to protect them. therefore, we would like to open more disscussions, debates and educate students further on these movements because schools should keep us well informed on what's going on. educating students on these movements can benefit them as it teaches them from a young age how to speak up on what matters to them. also if we educate our next generation on how to speak up now, in the future they will be able to make a difference because they have these experiences from school. in our school (will not be named) we want to be see more assemblies, tutorials and lessons which discuss more in depth about the social issues that effect us/ will effect us in the future. some examples of these are:
• lgbtq+ sex education- so people who are in not heternormative relationships can receive sex education that will help them in their future relationships.
• we are also hoping to start up an lqbtq+ committee for members of the community in our school where they share experiences and show support for each other.
• black history taught for all ages in greater depth. and not just about the oppression black people have gone through but showing theirs (and other minority groups) cultures.
