Keep DaJuan Brooks in the DGS band program.

The Issue

Our band director Mr. DaJuan Brooks' contract will be up for renewal next week, and he will most likely be removed from his position as band director at the end of this school year.

Mr. Brooks has been such an impactful figure to everyone in the school not just band students; he loves his kids, and treats us like family. In marching band, we learn about leadership and the qualities of being a good person. Brooks holds us to an acronym that we call B.R.A.V.I.N.G. Which stands for Boundaries, Responsibility, Accountability, Vulnerability, Integrity, Non-judgment, and Generosity; something we follow on and off the field.

Our Marching Mustangs recently competed in the University of Illinois Marching band championship and took 1st place over 42 bands. We would never have been able to do this without the pure dedication and devotion of Mr. Brooks.

Mr. Brooks brings out the best in all of us and is the heart and soul of the band program; he gives us a home on the field and in the school. As all of his students can agree, Brooks isn’t just a teacher. He truly loves his job and will do anything for his band, and this is why we do more than just march on the field.

By removing Mr. Brooks as band director, the District 99 and DGS administration would be doing a disservice and an injustice to the students, the Fine Arts department, and the entire DGS community.

All marching band, music program, and DGS students and families, please show your support of our lovely band director Mr. Brooks by signing this petition, to show the Superintendent and District 99 School Board how much our band loves and needs him.   You may also send emails directly to HThiele@csd99.org andBoardMembers@csd99.org.
