Have HCDSB raise the pride flag in June
Why this petition matters

The fight for rights in the 2SLGBTQ+ community has been an ongoing battle from the 1870s to today. It has gone on for far too long and the discrimination towards people in the 2SLGBTQ+ community is absolutely horrific and disgusting, myself and so many others expect more. From growing up in a Catholic School and learning about the Catholic faith, it has always enraged me that being gay was viewed as a sin or something wrong because apparently being in a loving relationship with someone of the same gender, or identifying as someone in that beautiful and loving community is disgusting and against the rules of faith? People should be able to identify and love whoever and whatever without the fear of being discriminated against or being disowned by the people of their own religion. There was this constant message in the Catholic faith that "We are all of God's children." but if that was really true, showing support for this community and their ongoing battles wouldn't be up for debate and the message that the only normal relationship or identity is heterosexual or cisgender would not be taught/enforced by a large portion of people. Over the years our curriculum has been about morality, the Ten Commandments, and the things that we are being told to value as Catholic students. We have been told to always do the moral action but what happens when the people who have been feeding us this information go against their own words. How do they expect us to sit down, listen to their hypocrisy and stay silent? By signing this petition you will be proving that the actions they have committed go against their view of catholic teaching more than flying the flag of the friends, family, and community that we can’t deny knowing. HCDSB showing their support by celebrating pride month and doing such a simple act will be one step closer to equality and acceptance. Know that we are aware not all people in the Catholic faith are against this important issue and that they are genuinely passionate about contributing to the change. Please sign and share this petition with whomever and make the people of the 2SLGBTQ+ community feel loved, appreciated, accepted, and supported.
