This year the Phone Policy’s in schools were changed across California because of the new law implemented. The law states phones may be limited or prohibited from schools. 

Students deserve a voice in policies that affect their daily life’s. This isn’t us trying to break the rules or the law. We are saying to let us have a voice.

If the purpose is to remove electronic devices too improve academic achievement, recent national research does not show any benefit in academics from strict restrictions. We support reasonable restrictions during instruction time. We are asking the district to reconsider how it chose to implement the new law and phone policy. 

No student should ever have to wonder if they can contact a loved one without being sent to the office. No student should ever question their safety in a school environment. 

I understand the policy and why it was implemented. A key point I would like to mention is that screen time isn’t a reasonable argument considering we are on our computers or watching a tv during instruction time for hours at school. 

This petition is not about choosing phones over education. Its about choosing and policy that respects both.
