The Issue

On September 26, 2025, a distressing event unfolded in our community of Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Immediately following school dismissal, a firearm was discharged by a juvenile near the football stadium where students were present. While the incident did not occur inside of the school, this frightening incident has left parents and students shaken and demanding immediate action to enhance safety in our school environments.

Every parent’s top priority is the safety and welfare of their children, especially when they are entrusted to educational institutions. As a parent witnessing this alarming situation, it has become evident that our schools are in need of heightened security measures. One proactive step we can take is implementing metal detectors at all entrances of Sapulpa Public Schools. This would not only deter potential threats but also ensure that weapons are not brought onto campus, ultimately fostering a secure environment for learning and growth. Bag checks upon entry would be a great implementation as well.

Statistics show that schools with metal detectors have seen a significant reduction in incidents involving weapons. By investing in this technology and implementing backpack checks, we can prevent potential tragedies and give peace of mind to both parents and school staff. The immediate installation of metal detectors or wands can serve as a strong line of defense, protecting the lives of our children and promoting a safe educational atmosphere.

We urge the Sapulpa School District and local government officials to take decisive action now. Let's not wait for another incident to happen before we act. Implementing this safety measure can make all the difference in assuring the well-being of our youth.

Please join us in making our schools safer. Your signature can help bring about this much-needed change in policy. Sign the petition and stand with parents and concerned citizens of Sapulpa in advocating for metal detectors in all Sapulpa Public Schools.

If you are interested in contacting the school administration, Glen Coffey is the Director of Safety and Security. His email is gcoffey@sapulpaps.org if you are interested in inquiring about the current policies at the schools.
