Strong Minds, Bright Futures: Mental Health Education for Texas Students

Strong Minds, Bright Futures: Mental Health Education for Texas Students
The Issue
Who is impacted:
Kids today are facing a silent crisis. Anxiety, depression, bullying, violence, and constant social media pressure are affecting students of all ages. As a parent, I’ve seen how these stressors hurt their confidence, behavior, relationships, and academic success. Most children don’t have the tools to understand or manage their emotions, and schools aren’t doing enough to help. We teach students how to pass tests, but not how to take care of their mental health.
What is at stake:
If we keep ignoring this, more kids will suffer in silence. Mental health struggles won’t just go away, they get worse without support. We risk losing bright futures to depression, self-harm, substance use, or violence. But if we start teaching students about emotional well-being early, just like we teach physical health, we can break the cycle. We can help students build confidence, ask for help, and create a healthier learning environment for everyone.
Why now is the time to act:
There’s no time to wait. Our children are hurting right now. Schools already teach about peer pressure, hormones, and drugs, so why not give equal attention to mental health? The earlier we start, the stronger and more resilient our kids will be. Let’s make mental health education part of the curriculum, not an afterthought. Let’s raise kids who know how to cope, connect, and thrive. I’m asking you to sign and support this petition because it’s time we do better, for all our kids.
