Matt Hancock’s actions led to thousands of deaths. He still holds the title “Right Honourable”.

Stripping him of that title is not enough, but it would be an important symbolic step, publicly acknowledging his responsibility for thousands of avoidable deaths.

The Covid-19 Inquiry has found that Hancock knew how incredibly vulnerable the care sector was to a pandemic. He had been warned years before, yet did nothing to prepare it. He then made the decision to discharge untested patients into the very care homes he had left unprotected, leading to thousands of deaths.

He abandoned care homes and lied to families about their loved ones’ safety. His “protective ring” claim was a lie.

As Health and Social Care Secretary, Hancock was responsible for protecting them.

He must face consequences. He should have no place in public life.

Matt Hancock must be removed from the Privy Council, stripping him of his “Right Honourable” title.

Politicians have been stripped of this privilege before. Elliot Morley was kicked out of the Privy Council over expenses fraud. Peter Mandelson was removed for bringing it into disrepute. Matt Hancock must be next.
