The Issue

Indigenous communities in face persistent disparities in education and employment opportunities compared to the wider population. These disparities have roots in historical injustices and continue to pose significant barriers to Indigenous prosperity. To address this issue, it is crucial to strengthen and make transparent the support available for Indigenous education and employment programs.

Currently, Indigenous students experience lower education attainment rates, with only completing secondary education, compared to for non-Indigenous peers. Furthermore, Indigenous individuals often encounter higher unemployment rates compared to  These figures highlight the urgent need for well-funded and accountable programs that can make a tangible impact in closing these gaps.

Indigenous-led education programs and employment initiatives, grounded in cultural values and community involvement, have shown positive results in improving educational outcomes and job placement. However, these programs frequently suffer from inconsistent funding and a lack of transparency in how funds are allocated. This leads to inefficiencies and limits the sustainability and scalability of successful initiatives.

We call upon government officials and stakeholders in to commit to the following actions:
- Increase funding for Indigenous-led education and employment programs and ensure that these funds are distributed in consultation with Indigenous leaders and communities.
- Implement transparent reporting mechanisms that track the allocation and impact of funding, making this information publicly accessible.
- Foster partnerships between government agencies, educational institutions, and Indigenous organizations to develop culturally relevant curricula and job training programs.
- Monitor and publish data on progress and outcomes to ensure accountability and continuous improvement.

The empowerment of Indigenous communities through education and employment is not only a matter of equity but also a means to enrich the cultural and economic landscape of the entire region. By signing this petition, you are voicing your support for policies that foster Indigenous self-determination and create lasting, positive change for future generations. Please sign to help make strengthened and transparent support for Indigenous education and employment a reality.
