The Issue

As a woman who has lived alone, I take personal safety seriously. Recently, I've noticed a troubling trend in our community where residents on the No Knock list are still being approached by solicitors. Despite having clear signs posted, these notices are being blatantly ignored. What’s more concerning is the repeated and aggressive behavior these individuals exhibit, with some even knocking after dark. This has made myself and other residents, particularly women and elderly, feel unsafe in our own homes.

This issue affects our public safety and quality of life. The current approach not only compromises our sense of security but highlights an outdated business model that potentially leads to adversarial interactions between residents and solicitors. Such encounters are not only uncomfortable but also unsafe for both residents and solicitors, especially in the nighttime.

It's time for change. We need new restrictions or stronger enforcement of the No Knock list to protect our community. This includes imposing real penalties on those who disregard the list, requiring visible permits for solicitors, and implementing restrictions on evening knocking. There should also be transparency regarding who is in our neighborhoods and why. Furthermore, consideration of broader measures is essential to adapt to modern expectations of privacy and safety.

I urge local authorities to take our concerns seriously and act promptly. Together, we can create a safer, more respectful environment for everyone. Please sign this petition to support stronger enforcement and ensure our community's safety is prioritized.
