Strengthen Pennsylvania vehicular homicide laws

Strengthen Pennsylvania vehicular homicide laws
The Issue
We are calling on Pennsylvania lawmakers to strengthen vehicular homicide laws, particularly in cases involving intoxicated drivers and repeat DUI offenders. Seventeen-year-old Armani Campos lost his life because someone made the reckless and preventable decision to drive under the influence. Our family is now forced to live without him, and without justice that truly reflects the value of his life.
Armani’s Story
Armani loved his family deeply. Whether it was hiking and spending quiet time with his mom, Melissa; being with his brother Johnny; his sisters, Julieanna and Daliah; or his Nanny and Pop Pop, Tracy and Troy—family meant everything to him. He loved vacations in New Jersey with his uncle Andrew and cousin Arian, late-night Rutters and Sheetz runs with “the boys,” shooting hoops with his cousins Jo and Ian, and spending full days making memories at Dorney Park.
On the night of the accident, Armani was simply trying to get home from Wal-Mart where he was working. He called someone he believed was a friend for a ride. Instead of making a responsible choice, that person chose to become intoxicated before getting behind the wheel.
Once Armani was in the car, the driver began speeding and crashed directly into the side of a tractor trailer. Armani, who was seated in the back seat, was violently thrown forward and suffered severe injuries. First responders did everything they could at the scene. Armani was transported to Reading Hospital, where he fought for his life for three days before tragically succumbing to his injuries.
The driver responsible is currently incarcerated and has a history of multiple DUI offenses. Currently, the case is delayed while the driver’s legal team reviews all details. While we respect the legal process, this delay deepens the pain for our family and highlights a serious failure in accountability, repeat offenders continue to endanger lives.
Our family now lives with a loss that will never be replaced.
The Future Armani Never Got
Armani was supposed to graduate high school in 2025. He was also enrolled at BCTC in Oley, working toward a future he was proud of. He dreamed of opening his own auto repair shop alongside his brother Johnny.
Those dreams were stolen, not by an accident, but by reckless and preventable decisions.
Why This Must Change
Armani’s death was not caused by a one-time mistake. The driver responsible has a documented history of multiple DUI offenses. Pennsylvania’s current vehicular homicide laws and enforcement measures do not adequately protect the public from repeat offenders or reflect the severity of driving under the influence and taking a life.
Families like ours are left devastated while the legal process moves slowly and accountability often falls short of the permanent loss suffered. We are speaking up because Armani can’t.
What We Are Asking For
We urge Pennsylvania lawmakers to take immediate action by:
Strengthening penalties for vehicular homicide involving intoxicated drivers
Implementing stricter consequences and preventative measures for repeat DUI offenders
Closing legal loopholes that reduce accountability
Ensuring sentencing reflects the lifelong impact on victims’ families
Call to Action
No family should ever have to bury their child because someone chose to drive impaired. Please sign this petition, share Armani’s story, and stand with us in demanding justice and meaningful reform.
Armani’s life mattered.
His future mattered.
And his story should help save others.
Signed,
The Olivencia, Campos, Shaffer Family
Speaking for Armani. Fighting for change.
