Don't Change the Golden Gaytime

Don't Change the Golden Gaytime
The issue
A recent petition requesting that the Streets Ice Cream name be changed due to potential harm to members of the LGBT+ community. Many members of the community feel a strong affinity for the Golden Gaytime, largely embracing it as "our ice cream". We would like to make it very clear that we do not wish the name to change and that we oppose the petition started by Brian Mc to change it.
While the name Golden Gaytime originated in a time before the word "gay" had a connection to same-sex attracted men (and by extension the broader LGBT+ community), it's a delightful ice cream with a lot of fond memories attached for many Australians (including gay men). The advertising slogan "It's hard to have a Gaytime on your own" would be welcome in many gay events and venues, and gave most of us a quiet chuckle over the innuendo we saw in it.
It's also worth noting that such focus by the media on a matter of product branding does nothing but diminish real issues affecting LGBT+ Australians everywhere.
So to Streets Ice Cream and Unilever, this is a counter petition hoping to show you that the majority of us continue to love and support the Golden Gaytime products and branding... That the majority of us actively oppose the change proposed by Brian Mc's petition. Please don't change this beloved Australian icon that so many gay Australians embrace as our own.
