Stray Kids MET Gala: Accountability for Racist Comments Made by Paparazzi at 2024 MET Gala
The Issue
As an individual of Asian descent, I am deeply disturbed and disgusted by the racist remarks made by paparazzi towards Stray Kids at the 2024 MET Gala. Some photographers commented, with one saying "I've never seen so many unemotional faces in my life" and another calling them "robots". These comments only perpetuate the stereotypes about people of Asian descent. This incident is not just a personal affront, but a stark reminder of the persistent racism against people of Asian descent that exists in our society. The MET Gala, hosted by America's most visited museum (The Metropolitan Museum of Art), should be a celebration of diversity and inclusivity, not a platform for bigotry.
Racism has no place in our society, let alone at an event as prestigious as the MET Gala. It is disheartening to see such behavior tolerated and unaddressed. Stray Kids, like all artists and attendees, deserve respect regardless of their race or ethnicity.
We call upon The Metropolitan Museum of Art to take immediate action against these paparazzi who made racist comments. We demand that they issue an official apology to Stray Kids, fire the photographers who made the racist remarks, and take steps to ensure such incidents do not occur in future events.
By signing this petition you are standing up against racism and showing your support for Stray Kids as well as all other victims of racial discrimination. Please sign this petition today!
