If you have ever eaten in the caf at Louisiana Tech University, you are aware of one very prominent dilemma: there are absolutely no straws. However, the lids they give us on our to-go cups have straw holes, despite the lids without straw holes being cheaper. The lack of straws has caused a large percentage of students who rely on to-go plates to not use the drink machines in the cafeteria; and statistically, most of the students who are getting their meals to-go are in the working class or are too busy to sit down in the caf.

As a group of students who are affected by the lack of straws and recognize how the entire campus could benefit from having straws in the caf, our comm group is trying to get straws in the caf for our big project. We understand that there might be conflicts with the cost and pollution that straws would bring, so as a solution we are asking Tech to invest in recycling bins around the campus. This would help with the extra littering that would come with getting straws, meanwhile providing our school money to purchase straws.
