Despite the crisis situation that students are facing in this current time the difficultly of Strathclyde Library is only adding to the pressure. Having been not allowed to eat or drink anything other than water this simply feels inhumane for a student to spend excessive time in what is an essential place to most students educations. Vending machines have been taped off and the cafe shut. Students are forced to sit out in sometimes torrential weather in order to eat during their time at the library. Not only do students have to sit the whole duration with a mask on but they are threatened to be banned from library and reported if they fail to do so properly. With many students living in shared flats it is simply impossible to ask students to either study at home or study in such a restricted place. Opening times have been cut by more than half for the run up to exams, by changing from 24 hour access to now only being 9am-5pm (shocking for students who have other commitments during typical working hours). Universities such as Heriot Watt and Edinburgh Napier have less restrictions in order to support their students and make what is a difficult time, as easy as possible. The university should explain why they think it is possible for a student to spend all day in the library without providing even a vending machine for a snack. Restrictions in the library should be more suited to students needs.
