Wokingham Borough Council has proposed plans for a £5,400,000.00 redevelopment of California Cross Roads. These plans not only reduce the efficiency of the Cross Roads but also creates a safety issue. 

The scheme was originally designed in 2018 at which point business owners and residents were consulted, stating that their wishes were, and are, for improved traffic flow. This scheme does not (by the Authority's own admittance) do this, it reduces car parking and creates an informal street layout which we have concerns about, due to the safety of children, the elderly, and all pedestrians who use the crossroads daily. Additionally, the roadworks required will create traffic delays, and disruption and take 6 months to complete. It is unnecessary and immoral for Wokingham Borough Council to spend 5.4 Million Pounds of taxpayers' money, when they are cutting vital social services, and increasing Council Tax by around 5%, to create a less efficient and less safe layout of the crossroads.
