Stop Whitestone Solar Farm — No Consultation, No Consent

The Issue

We are residents of the Rotherham area, deeply concerned about the Whitestone Solar Farm Project. The project would industrialise 4700  of our countryside with 3.8m-high panels and multiple container-style industrial units, along with fencing, CCTV and lighting across villages including Anston, Harthill, Kiveton, Wales, Killamarsh, Whiston, Treeton, Conisbrough and Ravenfield.

Consultation events were not held in many of the villages directly affected, leaving thousands of residents unaware of the full scale and impact of this project. Many have had no fair opportunity to raise concerns or take part in decisions that will shape their communities.

This huge scheme threatens farmland, wildlife, and the rural character of our area — yet there is no normal planning process. As a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP), it bypasses local planning and goes straight to the Government’s Planning Inspectorate for approval.

Whitestone’s consultation period has now ended, but the Inspectorate will assess whether the developer  carried out adequate public consultation before accepting the application.
