Thank you to everyone who has signed in support of this petition to encourage the white developer to stop his court action to force the sale of the McQueen family’s land.
Incredibly the white developer believes that he not only has the right to force the sale of this family’s land, but also hopes to make the family’s 91-year old matriarch, now in hospice care, to pay his legal fees.
Yes, the developer purchased a small share of land from a mentally unwell family member knowing that the majority of owners had no interest in selling. Yes, the developer now complains to the court that the family refuses to sell to him or to any other party. And yes, the developer now wants a court to force the family to sell (presumably to him) and to force the family to cover his legal expenses.
This reprehensible conduct by the developer and his attorney, Gregory Tomchin, should not be tolerated. This type of predatory behavior is immoral and places any family at risk of essentially having its property taken under the guise of a court proceeding.
The risk is particularly great in historically black neighborhoods where homes and land have remained for generations in the same families. Now as land prices rise citywide, developers look to score the biggest financial gains by taking advantage of securing land for pennies on the dollar in such neighborhoods.
Please continue to share this petition widely. The McQueen family not only hopes to stop this legal proceeding, but hopes to warn other families of this practice so that others can take the necessary legal steps to protect their investments.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
The McQueen Family
