Stop WestJet From Hiring Temporary Foreign Pilots

Stop WestJet From Hiring Temporary Foreign Pilots
The Issue
Who Is Impacted?
Canadian-trained Pilots are being overlooked in favour of foreign workers. This affects all Canadian pilots, including immigrants who have joined our workforce through the traditional Immigration process. Our Pilots have undergone rigorous & proven training, spending upwards of 100,000$ to get licensed. The Government & WestJet are undermining these workers in favour of foreign pilots from India & South Africa through the Temporary Foreign Workers Program (TFW).
What Is At Stake?
This decision has the potential to weaken aviation safety & reduce the well-being of Canadian-trained Pilots. Our Industry has a bottleneck of licensed but inexperienced pilots. There is no "Pilot Shortage" but a shortage of experienced pilots. This is largely due to non-competitive working conditions & little investment or support for entry-level Pilots & their respective industries. The Foreign Workers program will increase the bottleneck & decrease efforts to improve our industry, ultimately hurting our locally trained pilots. Canadian pilots are already facing risk due to US relations, the last thing we need is to risk more pilot jobs.
Here's what The Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) has to say:
“This circumstance has been created by a management team that has failed to address the very real issue of career progression and job security for pilots within the company. Their request to hire foreign pilots is problematic and short-sighted and will cause irreparable damage to labour relations. There are more practical solutions to attracting and retaining skilled professional pilots that do not involve utilizing a federal program that was never intended for this purpose"
“Airlines that do a good job with attraction and retention do not need to turn to temporary foreign workers”
Act Now!
This petition will be sent to the Minister of Transport & the Minister of Jobs. By signing this petition you will increase awareness & media attention.
The Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) has already taken action by asking a Judge to reverse the approval.
