Stop WestA From Allowing Teachers to Create Roucous Classrooms and Bully Students

The Issue

West Allegheny Senior High School has a serious problem with teachers having incredibly disruptive "teaching" and targeting students. This is a problem everywhere, and I wish it was just not getting along with someone.

First, some anecdotes of these classrooms:

1. Teacher, while taking the civics exam, a test required to pass in the state, took off his shoe and threw it across the room mid not-test discussion with a student. I hope no explanation is needed to why this is a terrible idea.

2. Same teacher would give out tests, then proceed to loudly watch videos (AP materials or football clips) during said test. Forcing students to either try to focus during this distraction or tell him to stop. He was asked, and his reply, instead of apologizing for his disruption was "Are you done with your test?" So that doesn't matter, the class is still testing and a student should not need to tell you to do your job.

3. Different teacher has one specific student, nicknamed "Doc" who he allows to talk during class. If anyone else other than "Doc" even sneezes, there is a quip about it. Not only is it clear favoritism, it is also just annoying and a roadblock to a genuinely interesting class.

4. Same teacher as 3. Disrespectful of students with 504 plans and female students. This one is mainly tone, which is difficult to portray in text, but I will try. The 1st day of school, he was talking about late work protocols. The only thing I remember was him staring at me and my friend saying something along the lines of "unless you're one of those 504 ones" (paraphrased) Not only was that targeted, it was also dehumanizing. I have also heard stories of him not following plans until pestered to. Additionally, he constantly places emphasis on the, as he likes to call them, "females" in his class. He has to ask someone a surprise question? Asks one of them. Has to joke about a guy being stupid? Say how the females in the class are so much smarter. Again, hard to convey over text, but derogatory and dehumanizing.

While this is an issue in teachers pretty much everywhere, some of these examples are ridiculous. Another connection is all these disruptive teachers are also coaches. My inference is that they are safe in their job because of the coaching, so they don't try.

What we want is for these teachers to be reprimanded for their behaviors, and for no other tolerating of habits this horrific. Make them shape up, or shun them to shaping up others. It's more acceptable to make fun of students in sports than an academic environment. We want complaints about teachers to be taken more seriously, to avoid, for example, shoes being thrown across classrooms
