West Northants Council have proposed a 150 page Policy with draconian increase in licensing laws for all taxi drivers (and taxi companies) that can mean driver banned for stopping on yellow lines to pick up passenger and remonstrating with a traffic warden (passengers who maybe vulnerable or disabled or simply out for a drink) or lose taxi badge for 10 years for having more than 7 points on their license, or get a 10 year loss of badge for using a mobile phone (which is part of equipment for the job in taxis). There are over 180 prohibitions and rules that can mean 2-12 points on your license each and once if you go over 12-20 points can mean you are banned. Most taxi drivers are in shock and have protested but many are not media literate and are simply getting distressed as to what to do. Did you know: Taxi drivers are sometimes overlooked as unsung heros helping vulnerable and disabled people on a daily basis, or just helping have a drink in the evening. Many taxi drivers worked throughout the pandemic and so many died because of it like the nurses. The NHS professions rightly deserve the credit for their work but no one thinks of the taxi drivers who also gave their lives. But more than this many get ill from stress many taxi drivers get sometimes fatal illnesses on a regular basis from overwork and many other factors as work is harder and slower since the pandemic and they are putting in longer and longer hours.
