As Irish citizens we have elected officials to represent us. As breaches of human rights and war crimes continue to add up in the ongoing assault on Gaza by Israel, the politicians have largely been silent, and in some cases even shown support for Israel.

Millions of lives, including those of children and the elderly are currently being intentionally put at risk, not only by bombs and bullets, but also by blockades preventing aid from reaching those in need.

As Irish people, our historic oppression is a part of our national identity, and such we have always sympathised with the oppression of any people. The ongoing case of the Palestinian people and their suffering in particular has touched is for over 75 years.

Our elected representative should now, as always, reflect the views of the people and speak out against the atrocities being committed.

Irish people do not support apartheid or genocide.
