Stop Verbal Harassment Against Women in London Streets

Stop Verbal Harassment Against Women in London Streets
The Issue
I am but one of countless women who have felt the sting of verbal abuse, demeaning comments from strangers on the streets of London. From a mother with her child being verbally abused by a stranger that stepped out of his car to commit his offence whilst she was alone in her car with her baby, to a strange men stepping out of his car verbally abusing me while I am alone on the street as everyone just watches. This cruel behaviour, better known as street harassment, is unfortunately a common experience that gets brushed under the carpet as antisocial behaviour and the abuser never gets to know about it, thus, never discourages them from doing it again. And the police, following the law, would only act when it turns into physical violence. I am publicly sharing my personal ordeal in the hopes of effecting change. The Home Office Crime Survey for England and Wales (2019), reported half of women aged between 18 and 24 have experienced harassment in public spaces. This is unacceptable. It's time for decisive actions to establish a safe environment for all. We must demand stronger preventative measures such as encouraging people to report these abusive behaviours and have the Police investigate and make the abusers are aware they have been reported and committed an offence so they stop doing it so. Only then can we ensure that no woman will have to endure verbal abuse when she steps out of her home. Make your voice heard and sign this petition to urge UK legislators to initiate tangible actions against verbal street harassment. Stand with me, with us, to put an end to this. Let’s mobilise collectively to make our city safe for everyone. Verbal abuse also create victims.
