Stop USPS mandate of Cluster Boxes in Established Neighborhoods

The Issue

As residents of Hunt County, Texas, we are deeply concerned about the US Postal Service's policy requiring Cluster Mailboxes to be placed in established neighborhoods. This policy threatens to cause confusion and inconvenience for us all - a situation that is not only disruptive but could also potentially damage property values.

Our neighborhood was established in 1995 and yet, we find ourselves facing a mandate that was intended for new developments. The US Postal Service has decided not to deliver mail directly to new homes in our subdivision unless the homeowner’s association buys, installs and manages cluster mailboxes. This policy forces existing homeowners to pay for equipment required for new homes, furthermore the subdivision was platted without provisions for cluster mailboxes. Placing cluster mailboxes on roadsides near residential intersections where there are no sidewalks will create a dangerous situation and limit accessibility to lots where the boxes are placed.

This decision affects every single one of us - from the elderly who may struggle with mobility, to busy families juggling work and childcare.

According to a report by the United States Postal Service Office of Inspector General (USPS OIG), customer satisfaction decreases when postal services are inconsistent or unreliable. It's clear that this decision will have a negative impact on our community's satisfaction with USPS services.

We believe it is crucial for USPS to reconsider their policy to force us to retrofit cluster mailboxes into established neighborhoods like ours. We urge them think about the impact of this policy on the needs and rights of existing customers.

This petition seeks your support in urging our elected representatives and USPS officials at both local and national levels to apply this mandate to houses within new neighborhoods only; let’s ensure our voices are heard loud and clear!
