Stop using live reindeer as holiday props

The Issue

I have seen reindeer and know that they should be visited in their natural habitat, not displayed in a council car park with tacky Christmas lights for a few pounds, for a festive 'experience'. It is distressing to witness these gentle creatures subjected to unnaturally loud and crowded environments, all in the name of holiday cheer.

Every year, across cities and towns, shopping centres, private venues, and public spaces use live reindeer as centrepieces for Christmas displays. This practice turns these noble animals into nothing more than props for commercial gain. While they are traditionally associated with the festive season, their participation in such settings can cause undue stress and discomfort. The constant noise, coupled with flashing lights, creates a traumatic environment for these docile animals.

Reindeer, native to Arctic and Subarctic regions, are accustomed to wide open spaces and serene surroundings, not being holed up for hours amidst bustling crowds. It is crucial to respect their natural instincts and living conditions, which are far removed from the typical festive settings they are placed in for human amusement.

Furthermore, the exploitation of these animals raises significant ethical concerns. By using live animals as mere decorations, we risk losing touch with the true spirit of the holidays, which values kindness and respect for all living beings.

We call on local authorities, venue managers, and business owners to reconsider their holiday practices and to seek alternatives that do not involve live animals. Technology offers numerous creative and humane options, such as animatronics or virtual reality experiences, to capture the magic of the season without compromising animal welfare.

Help us safeguard the well-being of reindeer during this festive season. Stand with us in urging a shift towards more ethical and compassionate holiday displays. Sign this petition to make a difference for animals who deserve to be left in peace, far from the clatter of overcrowded festive events.
