Stop using animals in circuses for entertainment
The Issue
Ever since I was a child, my heart ached every time I saw animals performing under the big top of a circus tent. These majestic creatures, taken from their natural habitats, forced to perform unnatural tricks, all for the fleeting amusement of human audiences. I love and care deeply about all animals, and it pains me deeply to think of them living a life of confinement and exploitation, all for the sake of a few moments of laughter and applause.
The use of animals in circuses is not just a relic of a bygone era, it is a practice fraught with ethical concerns and welfare issues. Animals used in circuses like elephants, lions, tigers, and bears are often subjected to cruel training methods, confined in small cages for long periods, and transported across long distances, causing immense stress and physical harm. According to a report by the Born Free Foundation, many of these animals display abnormal behaviors indicative of severe mental distress. Such an existence is a world away from the freedom and natural social structures they deserve.
There's a growing body of evidence that highlights the negative impacts of such practices. A 2015 study in the journal 'Animal Welfare' found that circus animals exhibit higher instances of anxiety and signs of distress compared to their wild counterparts. Moreover, in some countries, the public sentiment is shifting, with campaigns successfully leading to bans on using wild animals in circuses. Over 45 countries including the UK, Austria, and Greece, have enacted these prohibitions.
Our goal is clear: to put an end to this outdated form of entertainment in all regions, especially where this petition may reach and influence policy change.
